All of us have suffered from acidity at some point in our lives. Although the production of gas is a natural part of the digestive process, many people dread the possibility of passing gas in front of others. An uncontrollable fart at an inconvenient time can make a person the butt of jokes for years to come. But problematic gas is no laughing matter.



Excess gas in the stomach can be caused by a number of things, such as excessive drinking, not chewing your food thoroughly, eating spicy and gas-forming food, too much stress, some kind of bacterial infection, or digestive disorders.

Symptoms of stomach gas include flatulence, bad breath, lack of appetite, a coating on the tongue, abdominal bloating, bleaching and even stomach pain.


Home Remedies For Gas


Fennel:
Fennel is our first choice for curing flatulence. It’s incredibly effective and also starts working very quickly. Simply chew slowly on a small amount of fennel seeds or put them in a cup of boiled, hot water for 3-5 minutes and then slowly drink. You should be “gas free” within 5-10 minutes. We recommend you always keep some fennel seeds at home just in case you or anyone else has an unfortunate gas outbreak!


Cold milk:
Milk has a high amount of calcium that helps it prevent acid build up and absorbs the excess acid produced thereby reducing the symptoms; the fact that it is cold also provides instant relief from the burning sensation one feels during acid reflux.  It is essential that one has this cold and without any additives like sugar. Mix it with a spoon of ghee to make the remedy even more effective. 


Clove:
It is a natural calmative and helps improve peristalsis (the movement of food down the stomach) and also increase the production of saliva. It has a pungent taste when bitten into, and the taste buds react to this taste and secrete excess saliva, which in turn aids digestion. In case you’re suffering from acidity, bite a clove once so that the juice is released and then keep it in the mouth. The slowly escaping juice will immediately lower acid reflux and give you some relief.



Elaichi:
In Ayurvedic traditions, cardamom is believed to be one food that balances all three doshas kapha, pitta and vata. It is known to stimulate digestion and relieve people of stomach spasms. It soothes the mucous lining of the stomach helping it ward off the effects of excess acid produced in the stomach. Due to its sweet taste and slight cooling effect it also relieves the burning sensation associated with acidity.  To relieve acidity crush two pods of cardamom (with or without the skin), boil the powder in water and drink the cooled juice for instant relief.


Baking Soda and Lemon:
One conventional home treatment for gas is the use of lemon and baking soda, which combined makes an effective antacid. Put the juice of one fresh lemon in a glass and add some baking soda to it. This will cause fizzing. Add some more baking soda and a cup of water and stir it well so the baking soda dissolves completely. Drink this slowly. For instant relief from stomach gas, you can add a small amount of baking soda to a glass of water and drink it on empty stomach.


Cinnamon:
Cinnamon will soothe your stomach and also prevent further formation of gas. Add one-half teaspoon of cinnamon powder to a cup of warm milk. Stir it well and then drink it. You can also add some honey. Alternatively, you can make cinnamon tea by adding some cinnamon powder to a cup of boiling water. Let it steep for a few minutes and then drink it.


Apple Cider Vinegar:
Apple cider vinegar, used in the treatment of indigestion, can also help with gas. This remedy will soothe the stomach and give you instant relief. If apple cider vinegar is not available, you can try regular vinegar. Add two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar to a glass of warm water Allow the water to cool to room temperature, and then drink it.


Ginger:
Ginger is widely used as an all-round remedy for a multitude of ailments, ranging from digestive problems to tiredness and common cold to pain relief, to name a few. Chewing a small piece of fresh ginger after meals prevents the formation of gas. Mix a little ginger juice with a pinch of asafetida and consume it. Also, a concoction made by mixing a tablespoon of ground, fresh ginger with a cup of water and boiling it for a few minutes can be sipped two or three times a day. This provides quick and effective relief from gas trouble.


Cumin Seeds:
Cumin seeds are an excellent natural remedy as this boosts the secretion of saliva which in turn, stimulates digestion. It is a very potent remedy for gas trouble as well. Make a tea of cumin seeds by adding it to boiling water. Drinking this tea daily once it has cooled down, keeps digestive problems at bay. One can also chew a handful of cumin seeds after a meal to aid digestion. This spice is used widely in Middle-eastern and Indian cuisine, and is believed to promote metabolism. It has a soothing effect on the stomach nerves and heals ulcers formed due to the secretion of stomach acids.
