Lemons are a fabulous source of vitamin C,
calcium, magnesium and potassium—all antioxidants that improve the look and
feel of our hair, nails and skin. They have an amazing range of beauty
benefits. Here are some reasons our love for lemons, and soon yours, reaches
beyond the confines of our kitchens.
Beauty Benefits of Lemon
Use Lemon juice to heal acne-
Squeeze some fresh lemon juice extract and
dilute it with some water. Apply it on the affected area with the help of a
cotton pad. You can leave it for about fifteen minutes and then wash off with
clean cold water. Regular usage of lemon juice helps in healing acne. Apart
from this one could also have a glass of lemon water daily to clean their
system internally and thus attain a glowing acne-free skin. Take a glass of
lukewarm water and add 3 tbsp on lemon juice in it. You can also add honey to
this mixture, just to make it a lil yummy.
Clarifying moisturizer
Mix a few drops of coconut water with a few
drops of lemon juice. The coconut will hydrate your skin, and lemon will clear
and brighten it.
Hyperpigmentation Lightener
Lemon is a legendary folk remedy for freckles and age spots. The citric acid found in lemon juice works to gradually fade away spots and evens skin tone. Dissolve a pinch of sugar in 2 tablespoons of lemon juice with a cotton ball and apply daily to lighten spots over the course of a few weeks. Plus, since it’s a natural lightener, use this same formula on new pimples to fade redness throughout the day.
Teeth Whitener
This super fruit can also help brighten your smile in between professional whitening treatments. Mix baking soda and the juice of a freshly squeezed lemon and apply to your teeth using a Q-tip. Leave on for no longer than a minute, seeing how the acid is strong enough to break down tooth enamel, and gently scrub off with a toothbrush.
Lemons for removing blackheads
Direct application of fresh lemon juice extract on blackheads helps in removing them effectively. The citric component in the lemon helps in reducing the blackhead-causing oils in your skin.
Lemons for discolored elbows
Rub the lemon rind on the discolored elbows. This will help in reducing the dark patches on your elbows.
Cleansing wipes
"I like to mix a couple drops of lemon and tea tree essential oil in about 6 ounces of distilled water. I recommend it as a toner or for use with cotton pads as a cleansing wipe for problematic skin," says Becky Sturm, founder of StormSister Spatique.
Lip exfoliator
Put a little lemon juice on your lips before
bedtime, and wash it off in the morning to help remove dead skin cells and
dried skin. One caveat: "Obviously, if you already have severely chapped
lips that have any cuts, do not try this," says Gary Goldfaden, M.D., a
dermatologist.
Lemons for fasteners
Take fresh lemon juice in a basin and drop your finger fasteners in it. Stay like that for about fifteen minutes and allow the minerals to be soaked by your fasteners. Do it frequently before you go to bed. This helps in increasing the growth of protein and keratin in the fasteners and makes them wholesome and stronger.
