Home remedies for Eye Infections

You must have heard a number of times that eyes can speak more than words. But sometimes, our eyes can also be the cause of irritation and pain!



Eye infections can affect anybody. Most eye infections are caused by bacteria, viruses, fungus or other microbiological means. These pathogens can cause eye redness, itching and swelling. Some of the more common types of eye infections include conjunctivitis, ocular histoplasmosis syndrome (ohs), herpessimplex, and bacterial keratitis. Symptoms like swelling and redness in the eyes, blurry vision, itchy eyes, watery eyes etc., are the characteristics of an eye infection.
No matter what causes these infections, the best way to protect our most precious organ is to maintain hygiene and prevent the bacteria and fungi to penetrate our bodies.



Salt water 

Boil water for 10 min. Filled a clean mug halfway and put 2 tblsp of salt. Waited for it to dissolve and cool down.  then took a piece of paper towel, soaked it in the warm salty water and squeezed the liquid into your eye, constantly roll your eye around. You could feel a little tingle/burn.
Do this for 20 min, at 5 min increments.  Then hold the mug up to your eye hold your eyelids open and poured into eye with a final flush of remaining salt water. Your eye is clear and I hope this helps you.

Coconut oil

Coconut oil (all natural from Whole Foods, put a dab over your eye and let it melt in. This provided the most relief of all remedies and immediately took away some of the redness. Vision was blurry for about 30 minutes afterwards so apply before bed.)

Golden Seal

Golden Seal (just boil some water, add some Golden Seal powder and dab in on your eye. Eventually you can use a straw to add a drop of the water after it settled straight into your eye.)

Breastmilk

Put two drops of breast milk in each eye wait about 2mins the placed a warm towel on your eyes repeating this three time every 3-4 hours and you will be pink eye free.

Tea

Tea leaves contain many anti-bacterial properties, which can help to cure the eye infection. Tea helps in reducing the redness and swelling in the eyes. For obtaining the best results, use black tea. To make the tea, boil the tea bag in hot water. Make sure to cool it down before applying the bag on the affected area for 10-15 minutes. You can even use the tea to wash your eyes with a lukewarm mixture, if it does not irritate or gives a burning sensation to the eyes.

Boric Acid

Boric acid is mild and is often used as an antiseptic in the treatment of mild winds. It can also help heal eye infections. It can be used as eye drops to clear and heal the retina.

Rosewater

Rosewater is an excellent cleaning agent for the eyes. It clears all the dust particles and other debris from the eye. A few drops of rosewater every day will help to keep your eyes clean.

Aloe-Vera

For treating eye infection, use a dry and clean cloth or cotton ball. Soak it with aloe vera gel and apply it on the affected area. It will give a relaxing feeling to the nerves affected by the infection.

Yogurt

Using live cultured yogurt can help in reducing redness in the eyes. Soak a clean cloth in yogurt and directly apply to the affected area.

Exercising The Eyes

Rotating the eyes in a clockwise and then anti-clock wise direction for 10-15 minutes can increase the blood flow and help you fight eye infection.

Eating Healthy

Last but definitely not the least, eating a healthy diet can help improve your immune system and fight against eye infections too.
The eyes are the mirrors of our personality. Without them life will be so dark and bleak. It is important that we take care of our eyes and keep them in top health.
