The skin on our hands is actually managing the household, taking care of
the kids and other chores around the home, which means you are washing your
hands frequently, and this inevitably leads to hand skin that looks older than
you really are. The soaps and other cleaning products we use today can cause
your hands to look discoloured, wrinkly and rough. Luckily, there’s no need to
worry! By following some basic tips and using these extremely easy home remedies, you can get back
the soft hands you once had!
Moisturize your hands:
Lotion is important
for keeping your hands soft, and is available in dozens of scents and styles to
meet your personal needs. Moisturize your hands with lotion after every wash,
and keep small bottles hidden around your regular haunts to ensure you always
have some on hand. Look for lotions that contain shea butter, B
vitamins, and retinol. These are all beneficial for keeping your skin soft long
after you’ve applied the lotion. Smother your hands in lotion every night
before going to bed; you don’t use your hands when you sleep, so your skin will
have plenty of time to absorb the moisturizer. Plus, you’ll wake up with soft
hands every morning as a result!
Use deep-conditioning salve:
If your hands are not just dry, but also
peely and have cracks, bring out the big guns and use a conditioning hand
salve. This is a gel-like cream (like vaseline) that works wonders on healing
deeply dry skin. Rub it onto the problem spots (not your entire hands) for
several days until your skin has softened to a normal amount.
Sugar
with olive oil:
Simply put the sugar in the palm of one hand
and slowly pour the olive oil into it. Using your other palm start rubbing the scrub into your palms and hands. Massage your fingers, inner and outer parts of
your hands with gentle squeezing and circular motions for about 30 seconds. Then relax your palms and let the scrub sink
in for another 30 seconds. Now you’re done! Simply wash out your hands
with warm water and pat dry with a clean towel.
Lemon,
honey + baking soda:
Wash your hands with warm water and a mild
soap.
In a small container mix lemon, honey and
baking soda evenly.
Now apply this mixture onto your hands,
rubbing it through and massaging your hands for a minute. Allow the mixture to
sit on your hands for 5 – 10 minutes. Finally wash your hands in warm water and
do not use soap directly afterwards. Repeat this process at least twice a week
to remove discoloration and promote soft healthy looking hands.
Find a pair of gloves:
Using the overnight method for soft hands
involves a set of gloves or mittens. There are some specialty spa gloves
available for getting soft hands overnight; these have a permanent gel that
lines the gloves, that helps to lock moisture into your hands. Otherwise, any
pair of knit or cotton gloves or mittens will work. If you don’t have any
gloves, you can use a clean pair of socks. If you have exfoliator gloves, made
from a rough loofah-like material, you can wear those as well.
