In the summer, many people complain about sun tanned skin. The sun’s
ultraviolet rays increase production of melanin in the body, which results in
sun tanned skin. After getting a sun tan, it is not easy to bring your skin
back to a normal state but with patience and care it can be done. Here are some of the most popular
and effective home remedies and methods to remove that horrid sun tan.
You can apply these natural packs to get rid of the tan from your face,
arms, hands, neck, back and feet the natural way. These age old home treatments
need at least a week of regular use to obtain noticeable results against the tan
and to get your natural color back.
Buttermilk and Oats:
Prepare a mixture of oats and buttermilk. This mixture should be rubbed
onto the tanned area as the oats will help in exfoliating the skin and on the
other hand the butter milk is known to be extremely soothing for the skin.
Lemon Juice:
Applying some fresh lemon juice and allowing it to remain for at least
15 minutes on the elbows, knees or patchy areas helps remove the tan and making
it fair.
Aloe Vera:
Aloe Vera gel is an excellent remedy for taking care of dark tans. It
will lighten the skin in as little as a week, if applied everyday to the
affected area. However, aloe has the property of making your skin
photosynthetic and can darken it if you go out in the sun without sunscreen
lotion. This makes it important to remember to use sunscreen every time you go
out.
Yogurt:
Yogurt is very effective in minimizing a sun tan as it cools the skin as
well as reduces redness and tightens the pores. Take a cup of plain yogurt and
add the juice of one cucumber and one tomato. Next, add half a cup of gram
flour (besan). Apply it on your face and neck. Leave it on for 30-45 minutes
and then rinse off with lukewarm water. Plus, simply apply some fresh yogurt on
your skin daily before taking a bath. For best results, add tomato juice and
lime juice to the yogurt.
Gram flour:
Gram flour is very useful in treating a sun tan as it helps remove dead
skin cells and leaves your skin bright and young. You can use the gram flour
powder available in market or make a paste of whole green gram. Mix the gram
flour in water and rub it all over the affected skin area. Wait 20 minutes before
washing if off with water. Do this twice a week for a few months. For best
results, use rose water instead of plain water. You can also mix some lime
juice and yogurt into the paste.
Cucumber:
Cucumber juice also helps reduce a sun tan. Cucumbers have a cooling
effect that soothes the skin and helps eliminate a suntan. The vitamin C in
cucumbers also will help keep the skin well moisturized. Mix two tablespoons of
fresh cucumber juice and one tablespoon of lime juice. Add a pinch of turmeric
to it. Mix it well and apply it on the affected skin. Leave it for 30 minutes and
then wash it off with water. You can also rub freshly cut slices of cucumber on
your skin.
Almonds:
Almonds are also very good at removing tan from the hands. Take 5 to 10
fresh and green almonds and grind them. Mix this paste with 5 drops of
sandalwood oil. Apply this paste on the affected area. If fresh almonds aren’t
available, buy almonds and soak them overnight. Now grind them next morning and
follow the same procedure as you did for the fresh almonds.
Papaya:
Take the pulp of mashed papaya. Try rubbing it on the tanned area. This
massage also helps in curing the tanned skin.
Turmeric:
Turmeric is a natural skin care product that is capable of curing almost
all common skin problems. Take turmeric and mix it with lemon juice. Stir well.
Now add 1 tbsp of raw milk to it. Apply this on your hands and let it stay
there till it gets dried up. Thereafter, wash it with cold water to see the
visible results.
Potato:
Cut a raw potato into half and rub its moist, exposed flesh on the
affected areas. Let it dry and rinse off. Do this daily to see results.
Coconut oil:
Wash the tanned area with lukewarm water and apply fresh coconut water
all over and leave it to dry. After half an hour you can wash with cold water.
Do it regularly in few days your skin color will become normal.
Buttermilk and Tomato:
Apply 1 spoon of tomato juice with 6 spoons of buttermilk on the sunburn
affected areas to cure them quickly. Tomato can alone treat sunburn.
Mutani mitti(Fuller
earth):
Mutani mitti(Fuller earth) has also shown great results when used as a
home remedy for sun tan. Add tomato juice in fuller earth and apply on your
face. You can also add gram flour and multani mitti and a pinch of turmeric to
cure sun tan. Both the face packs are wonderful anti sun tanning masks for oily
skin.
Important and basic
suggestions to prevent sun tan:
1. Cover your hands properly before stepping out in the sun to avoid
direct impact
2. If you can’t cover them, then apply a good sunscreen to keep the skin
protected. Apply a sunscreen with at least SPF 30 liberally and half an hour
before sun exposure. If you skip sunscreen because you sweat a lot, look for a
‘non-comedogenic’ one as this will not clog your pores.
3. Drink lots of water. This helps you to keep your skin hydrated from
inside out, thus reducing the risk of the skin drying. It increases the cell
turnover and lets your skin rejuvenate and renew itself.
4. Moisturize your hands, that is, hydrate your skin externally too by
applying a moisturizer that contains natural fruit acids on a regular basis.
This will aid tan removal from the skin.
5. Exfoliation really helps to remove natural tan from your skin. It helps
to slough off the top layers of dead skin, leaving fresh skin beneath. Hence,
you should incorporate this in your weekly skin care routine.
